Point Defiance Park at 698 acres is among the top 20 largest urban parks in
the United States.
The park features a replica of Fort Nisqually circa 1855; Camp Six Logging
Museum; rose,
rhododendron and Japanese garden displays.
14 miles of hiking trails; and a five-mile scenic drive through a coastal
forest of fir, cedar, hemlock
and giant native rhododendrons and viewpoints of the Puget Sound and
surrounding areas.
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium http://www.pdza.org features animals of the
Pacific Rim,
exhibited in their natural habitats.
Beluga whales, seals, penguins, and polar bears inhabit the aquarium,
where an underwater viewing window allows you to watch sharks, stingrays
and
brightly colored tropical fish typically located in the South Pacific.

It is an easy hunt if you know your trees as Forest Gnomes do.
Upon entering the park, follow the signs to Never Never Land / Fort
Nisqually
Historic site.
Park in the lot and walk back to the last stop sign you stopped by.
Find the triangle trail marker and proceed West until you have passed 8
more
triangle trail markers, one of which is there, but missing most of it's
triangle.
Look for a small Hemlock tree evenly spaced between two larger cedar trees
on
the left. The Forest Gnome lives in the larger of the two cedars.
Please be careful and discreet as this trail system is heavily used.
